In 2003, forestry employees of the Missouri Department of Conservation conducted a survey of fire departments across the state as part of a nation wide effort to survey fire departments.  Information was collected from 629 Missouri fire departments that participated in the survey.   Survey data was entered into a Microsoft Access database which was combined with survey data from other states at the national level.  The Missouri database provides insightful information concerning the coverage of fire departments, number of members, availability of active volunteers, ranking of emergency responses, the lack of wildland protective gear/bunker gear/SCBA, training priorities, equipment needs, fire department issues, type and extent of funding, radio communications and dispatching, membership in associations, and participation in local and statewide mutual aid etc.

The reports on this web site were created to present the survey data in a convenient and easy to read format.
